Collage
In my work I have used collage frequently. I suspect it started when I returned to painting and I used papers rather than paint to create on a larger scale. It has been a part of my works since then as in paintings from my travels.
The paintings are created using mixed media which gives an active surface where focus and details can be made using collage material. This collage element uses paper or fabric and is included to enhance or highlight an area. It may also be a sensory equivalent of texture or colour within the painting or sometimes it becomes the inspiration or theme of the work. More recently Music pieces have used collage in a bigger way where images were transferred from sketch books and then developed with acrylic paint onto the canvas. The painting evolves and the collage remains visible or becomes totally incorporated and invisible, major or minor.
